MINDTHEGAP TRAINS NATIONAL YOUTH SERVICE CORPS MEMBERS OF BATCH B STREAM 1, 2023 ON DIGITAL SKILLS AND LEADERSHIP ACROSS 36 STATES AND THE FCT ORIENTATION CAMPS

It is believed that Youths are the engine of growth and development of any Nation; because, they are the most active and energetic workforce. To this effect, MindTheGap collaborates with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to train Nigerian graduates undergoing 2023 Batch “B” Stream 1 Orientation Course. The training seeks to equip Corps Members with Digital and Leadership Skills to enable them contribute meaningfully to National Development and to build the capacity to grasp employment opportunities in the technology industry.

The NYSC is an Agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria established in 1973 under Decree No. 24 of 1973, as way to promote National Unity, Integration, and Development in Nigeria. Despite the challenges that the NYSC programme has faced over the years, it remains a crucial platform for promoting national unity, building leadership skills, acquiring new skills, enhancing employability, and promoting entrepreneurship among Nigerian graduates.

NYSC Officials and Schedule Officers were present to coordinate the training, while MindTheGap Community Managers and Innovation Leads delivered the lecture on Digital Skills and Leadership. In addition to the Training received, 740 Corps Members represented their Plantoon to Debate on the topic “Government, Policies and Citizens: Roles, Responsibilities and Opportunities – The Youth Perspective”. At the end of the debate, cash prizes were given to the first 3 platoon winners, courtesy MindTheGap. Corps Member were also encouraged to join the Digital Onboarder Community Development Service (CDS) Group.

A total of 10,650 Corps Members participated in the Digital Skills and Leadership Programme organised for 2023 Batch B Stream 1 at NYSC Orientation Camps Nationwide. These set of Youths are expected to deploy the knowledge acquired towards national development for the remaining months of their Service year, and develop capacity to become employable. Also, Corps Members who will join the Digital Onboarder CDS are expected to register Small and Medium Enterprises on Google My Business Platform to make them visible to potential customers, and mentor Secondary School Students to inculcate Digital Literacy in their host communities.
