MindtheGap is thrilled to inform the general public about the forthcoming announcement of Google’s partnership and support for a transformative project called On-the-Job targeting Youths not in Education, Employment and Training (YNEET). This visionary project is set to revolutionise the landscape of digital skills development among YNEET, positioning them for jobs in the digital economy, some of which are readily available in the Medium and Small Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across Nigeria.
BACKGROUND
In an era defined by rapid technological advancements, the need for digital literacy and proficiency has never been more critical. In Nigeria, about 53.40 percent of youths are unemployed, according to youth unemployment rates released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in 2022. Recognizing this imperative, On-the-Job project is designed to empower young individuals Not in Education, Employment and Training to create employment opportunities for Beneficiaries.
OVERVIEW
The On-the-Job project aims to provide comprehensive digital skills training to YNEET, irrespective of their background or class across 12 States. The initiative will encompass an array of modules, workshops, and resources, catering to various skill levels and aspirations. By offering training in areas such as coding, digital marketing, data analytics, cybersecurity, and more. The project also seeks to connect Beneficiaries to internship and job opportunities.

Diverse Learning Pathways: On-the-Job will offer an extensive range of digital skills training, allowing participants to select pathways aligned with their interests and career aspirations.
Accessibility: The initiative will ensure inclusivity by providing both online and offline learning, enabling every eligible youth to benefit from the program.
Industry Partnership: On-the-Job will collaborate closely with Government Agencies, Tech Companies and Experts, ensuring that the curriculum remains relevant and aligned with industry demands.

The official announcement of for On-the-Job initiative is scheduled for Tuesday, August 15, 2023. The event will take place in Abuja and will feature Google Officials, Kashim Shettima, Nigeria’s Vice President; Tayo Olosunde, Executive Director of MindtheGap; Government functionaries, Technocrats, and other Stakeholders.
